The interest of assaying SHBG lies in an assessment of Free Testosterone Index, FTI. It is assayed in investigations of the etiology of hyperandrogenism (hirsutism, virilism), and in the evaluation of polycystic ovarian syndrome and of male hypogonadism. The SHBG-RIACT kit is based on a two-step immunoradiometric assay principle, where SHBG is sandwiched between a monoclonal antibody labelled with iodine 125 and a monoclonal antibody adsorbed onto the inner walls of the assay tubes.

Coated tubes
Two monoclonal anti-SHBG antibodies are used for the sandwich. The first monoclonal antibody is adsorbed onto the tube walls. The second monoclonal antibody radiolabelled with iodine-125 is used as the tracer.
*Two-step assay procedure: 30 min at RT / shaking + 30 min at RT / shaking.
