The interest of assaying SHBG lies in an assessment of Free Testosterone Index, FTI. It is assayed in investigations of the etiology of hyperandrogenism (hirsutism, virilism), and in the evaluation of polycystic ovarian syndrome and of male hypogonadism. The SHBG-RIACT kit is based on a two-step immunoradiometric assay principle, where SHBG is sandwiched between a monoclonal antibody labelled with iodine 125 and a monoclonal antibody adsorbed onto the inner walls of the assay tubes.

두개의 단일클론성 anti-SHBG 항체는 샌드위치법에 사용된다.
첫번째 단일클론성 항체는 튜브벽에 코팅이 되어있고, Iodine 125가 표지된 두번째 단일클론성 항체는 추적자로 사용된다.
